Used to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, and to raise HDL cholesterol levels.
Significantly reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other heart complications in patients with high risk factors.
Selectively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol.

Report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness immediately, especially if accompanied by fever.
Unlike older statins, Atorvastatin has a long half-life and can be taken at any time of day, but should be at the same time daily.
It is best to avoid large quantities of grapefruit juice, as it increases the level of Atorvastatin in your blood.
